SBG is the better player by far.

 Yes agree with that.

Definitely.

Ella is very small, which doesn't help. And can be very sulky at times. In terms of ceilings, and who knows and all that, but I would be surprised if Ella made top 500 whereas Beth has definitely got the potential to get inside the top 300. (That said, Beth can snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, so you never know in a one-off match)

Ella went to college which is why she's that bit older without Ace V maybe realising it.

Beth (playing for Wilton) beat Ella in the National Team Tennis finals at Bournemouth in September.

So she did. It was 6-4 4-6 6-0. Beth also beat Freya that week in the final, so she was playing well. As CD said, you never know in a one-off match.

I'm up early and thinking of going today. Is anyone else going?

Just having a little look at the odds:

Lissy 1/12, Ali 6/1
Beth 2/7, Ella 5/2
Emma 4/9, opponent 13/8
Freya 9/4, opponent 1/3
Eden 2/7, opponent 5/2

Would be great to get 4 through, obviously 5 would be preferable, but you'd have settled for 4/7 before the draw was made yesterday. I can see why Emma is favourite (even if we shouldn't just expect it - it would be a fantastic win if she pulls it off) but can anyone shed any light as to why Eden is a reasonably big favourite against her seeded opponent? Freya you can understand being underdog as Buyukakcay was top 60 2 years ago.

Odds are of course just that and there's a job that needs doing, but good luck to all 7.

It'll be a very tough test indeed if Emma can come through her match today. I see 2nd seed Barbara Haas who she could face is 6-0 5-0* up against the German qualifier who beat Emma Hurst 1 and 1, having only dropped 19 points.

No GB involvement yet.

Emma was 4-0 up and had 2 SPs at 5-2*, but it's back on serve now 5-4*.

Emma does have 30-0 so a possible opening.

She does indeed break, to love, so takes the first set 6-4. Great stuff.

Livescores is playing up. The first two matches on Court 4 have only suddenly just appeared and Lissey/ Ali and Freya should both now be on court too.

The match following Freya's has started - still no score for Freya or Ali/Lissey.
Beth and Ella have started as well.

Emma's WC secures her WTA ranking for the start of next year, and means we'll have 24 women with a ranking at the start of the new era.

With only 3 non-15K points previously, these are 5 very useful points to add to her tally.

Freya apparently lost 6-1 6-0 :(
