I see there are odds up for the matches tomorrow which probably means we will be able to follow the scores.
Just 7 of the 8 ties are listed, no Sam yet, but Eden and Freya are both 1/2 to win with their opponents 6/4. Looking at rankings, you'd probably expect Sam's odds to be similar.
Sam will win easily. Eden and Freya will be tighter, but should come though.
Yeah, I guess Morton taking Sam's opponent to 5-5 in one of the sets is a good indicator and looks (on paper - I did read your write up) like the one of few seeded players to be in any sort of trouble.
Looking at the one sided nature of these qualifying matches one wonders who is actually coaching these girls? At the top level of tennis one would know because they can come on court to advise their player.
According to livescores, Sam Murray has given a walkover in her match
Such a shame for her. And one less for the ever dwindling GB clan.....
Yes, this is really sad for her, suggests she has some longer term niggle again... and also suggests her pro playing days may be drawing to a close. After a promising end of year last year, she has not been able to put together a consistent run of matches this year, as she was injured again early part of this year. Sad because she seemed back on a much better track a year ago but this year has really not happened for her and she is slowly drifting down the rankings again.
Bit of a disgrace that last years winner Murray didnt get a Wild Card. I know its an upgrade but even still its poor from the organisers.
Im not really surprised at the results from the other girls. Even the ranked ones as they did accumulate their ranking mainly from very weak 15ks overseas, granted a couple of decent wins. K Pitak and Anna P etc.
The mystery wildcard is just that and if it is the likes of Ghodrati, Garshong or someone of similar ilk and they end of losing with scores like some of the above then there has got to be questions.
I don't know how many WCs she might have, and if 1 she may be lined up for Shrewsbury, but it does seem a bit strange if she has been snubbed for someone not really capable of competing.
I'm really disappointed for Sam, but in the light of her withdrawal it's probably good that she wasn't given a wild card. Better to give it to a younger fit player who can at least gain from the experience.
