Week 44 - ITF ($25K) - The Wirral, GB

Never mind. Looks like Emma had chances in the first set. Really good week though.

Saves me £3.60 in tunnel tolls now....

Obviously a bit disappointing the way that ended, losing 9 of the last 10 games and serving for the first set, but a superb week, big scalps, notable wins and a rise up the rankings.

Well done Emma.

Doubles final now showing on live scores as starting at 1:00 - so yes, as paulisi said, given priority.

Rus is one of the players who can put Heather and Katies Oz Open Direct Entry at threat isnt she?

Yes, Rus is currently WR108. But her lowest counter right now is 13 points (apart from slams), so she isn't gaining a lot so far.

Rus has a 95 point counter dropping off in a couple of weeks, so a win here and Shrewsbury next week will only keep her where she is.

I'm actually disappointed that Emma lost that after she beat her last two opponents, and Jack's success. I guess it's a learning curve to keep the level up for days on the trot. I kind of wish I'd made the effort now to go. Still, back to school, regroup and let's see what happens next year. By my calculations, when those points go on, she'll be about WR 575.

Yes, pity Emma tailed off it seems from 5-5 in the first; but it's been a great week and excellent experience for her :D

Great week, obviously the right level for Emma to continue her development. I wonder whether or not she will play anymore juniors. There is a part of me that feels she should just focus on senior tennis and completely avoid the hype that accompanies junior success. There is a lot to be said for staying under the radar.

Yes, but who know what might happen in the future.  I always think you should go for a big win while you can.  Laura Robson will always be a junior Wimbledon champion.   Eleanor Dean was probably at the same standard at the same age, but was cruely robbed by injuries and will go through life without such a major achievement. (in the tennis field).

So true, it's hard to have that balance of long and short term planning. We didn't expect Laura to be this injury prone, saying that WR 27 wasn't exactly that shabby. Emma looks physically more robust though, so who knows. If only we had crystal balls.

Laura Robson will also always have an Olympic Silver medal as well - which is often overlooked.

Edited to add a word
