That's a fair draw and if she does come through she could play the lowest ranked of the seeds in Monova who's currently #327, not too far ahead of Maia. Certainly better than the likes of Bacsinszky, Loeb or Zavatska.

Not going well for Maia. Gets her first game on the board, but a double break down.

1-4*

Went to a TB, but Maia took it. Last I saw was 5-3 in the TB. Great recovery from *0-4 down.

Strange that Maia is here rather than the UK event?

Hopefully she can close this out.

Well done Maia.

I guess maybe something about this tournament likely set-up that Maia preferred to Wirral. No need to follow the throng.

She's hear because of the automatic withdrawals - she was on both entry sheets, but in the MD here and only on the q list for Wirral, so the AW mechanism withdrew her from Wirral, even though it was her top priority listed event. And she has won her first match, Maia won't mind too much!
