Feel very bad for Soumeya, as her partner had to withdraw and the lucky losers who replaced them best their intended opponents very easily. Would have been a big points hall for her.
I worry for Soumeya with next year's doubles acceptance rules* not favouring those that choose to focus on doubles.
*To be accepted to doubles in a 15K you must be entered in the singles draw, with priority given to singles main draw entrants. Acceptance in 25K-100K will be determined by the best of singles or doubles ranking.

Dissapointing results - I thought Gabi and Katy would have been much closer if not winning those matches. Jodie did very well though.
Katy's attempts at 60k tournaments have been pretty fruitless this year, and her trip downunder particularly so.
Re the doubles entries for next year - that is going to affect quite a few players and partnerships as both players must be entered in the singles draw (main or qualifying).
Gabi was 12-12 in games and 77-76 in points, but at the end of the second set I thought she'd close it out
Yes, though of course her 6-0 second set was in that.
Clearly Gabi got on top early in that set and whether Cabrera sort of then let that go and / or there was a very big change in either or both levels after that who knows. But Gabi was well beaten in the decider.
Not being on stream we don't know that or Gabi's reactions this week or how much additional travel her racket made after some of the points.
