Week 44 - ATP Masters 1000 - Paris (hard)

Good win for Dom and Franko.

I saw this on MTF earlier, if true (anyone else hear anything) then Dom and Franko sit 12th and this win will help secure the top 13 pairs place that is mentioned here and ensure they get into all Masters before French Open, and effectively therefore all the big events prior to hitting the North American swing

Just stuck my nose in for a few minutes. Sad that Kyle had pulled out but probably a wise decision. Having said that, he actually has a chance of taking out his CH ranking and ending the week at WR 13.

Raonic and Nadal out injured, Federer through to 3rd round without hitting a ball so far.

I was wondering where Jaziri came from! Must put Nadal as doubtful for London also?

Fucsovics also out, Fognini got a walkover. Not sure if that means he could overtake Kyle?

Nadal is an abdominal injury so doesn't look good for O2. Fogini was already ahead of Kyle in live rankings.

Yes, it is Dimitrov and Goffin that Kyle has overtaken for his current live ranking 13.

The main threat to that comes from Russia though others with big weeks could overtake him, including Dimitrov.

Current live ranking positions :

13. Edmund 2150 - withdrew
14. Tsitsipas 2095 - lost in R1
15. Medvedev 1932 + 45 so far = 1977 - in L32
16. Khachanov 1835 + 90 so far = 1925 - in L16

L16:  John Isner (USA) & Neal Skupski CR 102 (68+34) defeated (7) Henri Kontinen & John Peers (FIN/AUS) CR 31 (16+15) by 4 & 5  (for Neal)

Henri & John the first of the seeds to fall.  Marach & Pavic (1) or Bops & ERV for Neal & Isner in the QF.

Good couple of weeks for Neal, ATP500 and then QF in a Masters, and both without his favoured partner! I see Neal is tentatively top 30 now, Dom has moved to 19th in live rankings. Impressive couple of weeks for the Brits.

Very good for them and potentially very good for Dom & Franko.

Anyone know anything for definite about Peya's chances of partnering Mektic at the 02? - ie. is #10 possibly / definitely in the equation?

The tweets coming from Peya's account suggest he is planning to play

Novak Djokovic is now no.1(again). Impressive given where he was at the start of the year (dare I hope for a similar resurrection for Andy? Won't even be greedy and ask for too much - top 10 will be nice enough!)
First player to be ranked outside top 20 and become no.1 in the same season.

18k euros for Neal and 180pts - easy this doubles lark when you get in with the big boys in the big tournaments.
Neal getting close to winning a quarter of a million dollars this year. Poor old Ken has only won half as much.

And Jamie & Bruno are the next ones to bow out:

Looks like a bit of half-hearted effort.  cry

With all today's results now in, there are only three players that can deny Kyle finishing the season on a career best WR13.

Dimitrov has to make the final here, which means if seedings go to plan, he will have to beat Cilic, Djokovic and Federer in that order.  Good luck with that lot Grigor - or not, as the case may be.

With the other two, Schwartzman and Khachanov, the situation in more complex given that the are both in the same section of the draw.  A SF would be enough for Khachanov and for Schwartzman it would put him level on points with Kyle.  Not sure how a tie break would work in that scenario or if they would just share WR 13.

That section is

Zverev v Schwartzman

Isner v Khachanov

with one of those four making the SF.  So go Sacha and Big John.
