It was a 50/50 match in the first place, not necessarily one Naomi 'should' win like what a banana skin would have been. Lopa was 6/5 to win and if Naomi does end up losing here, she will have had far worse defeats than this in the past couple of months.
Having watched a little bit of that, I think we are close to the point we can say, it really doesnt matter whether Naomi ever reconciles with the LTA. With the other players coming through she is playing at a level not even close to fed cup consideration, singles or doubles. May be a bit premature and unfair, but times move on.
I guess that what makes forums interesting - differing views.
I view a banana skin as a match that someone should win, but if they are not on the ball then the opponent may cause the upset. Broady had lost her last couple of matches to Marand and Sadikovic and Lopa would have absolutely gone into this match thinking she could and even should win not hoping her opponent is off.
I see Naomi will lose her highest points event in a few weeks, so if she doesn't find a way to start winning some matches soon her ranking will really plummet. I don't think she's been the same since she parted company with Fitzmeister. Such a shame as I thought he brought the best out in her, but maybe funding was an issue for her?

Anyway, Broady lost 3 and 2.
absolouteley and fair point
tara naomi it seem as though that generation are fading away at the moment hope they get a second wind - or is it third forth??
signs dont point to it at the moment tho no those i can see anyway
at least the new lot are perking up all impresive but i dont like to see old favorites slump out like this :- (

She's got a couple of biggies coming off before the end of the year. She made the SF and QF of 125k events so something like 86 points coming off in the coming weeks. Her 2018 record is so poor unfortunately.

Yeah, it's sad to see, especially when they are still in their mid to late twenties and not like they are 30 odd and naturally coming to the end of their careers.
The (lack of) grass season certainly didn't help Naomi as she didn't win a match and that is often the foundation for our girls to preserve and build on their ranking.
I guess the only positive is, if they can find a bit of form, they won't be defending much and a few wins and they should start climbing pretty soon, but that's easier said than done.
If Naomi is say 300-350 in the world come June, it'll be interesting to see what happens in terms of grass WCs.

What is he doing now? Anyone know?
He was in the coaching set up with Sloane Stephens (again) at the start of this year.
i gotta disagree i dont care how phenom youre phenom wr204 should be expected to beat 15yo wr704 playing they 1st match over $15k
but she being pretty easeily beat right now 36 24
That would be a WR 204 who has been vaguely playing like a WR 204 of late. Naomi has not, which I took as a big reason for other folk's concerns. Essentially neither have been playing to their rankings, which are what they are - a correlation of the last years' senior results. The bookies' pre match odds reflected these concerns.
Great pity, given she has shown she could not only play to WR 204 level but a heck of a lot higher ( having been top 100 ) but I still consider that there have been one or two big own goals in her choices of paths to follow at different times.
She could be a relative Isner of the women's game. Not too pretty to watch but very effective especially considering limited other tools. He does it year after year though whereas Naomi, having got that at times so strong serve very much more consistent ( with Fitzy ), has lost all consistency with it and other parts of her game have also gone backwards.
