The match to decide who plays Mike Bryan & ERV for the other final berth (Marach & Pavic (1) or (Máximo) González & Schwartzman) will be played later today.
Excellent result - top 30 for Joe, Neal will go to around low-mid 30's as well.
Going back to the Brits and who they pair with , I wonder if this gives them all a bit to think about. Is Neal and Joe a more potent pairing than Neal and Ken - Neal can clearly get into more events with Joe. So would Neal favour Joe as a partner and where would that leave Ken? Joe has played a fair bit with Nielsen, but again maybe he would favour Neal.
And it also gives an option for DC with Dom playing well currently...
Ken at 35 is more than 6 years older than Neal and a family man. Now 35 is hardly old for a top doubles player but one would imagine that his powers will comparatively begin to wane at some point and young bro might then strike up a new partnership.
That may or may not be some time yet. But for now Ken seems to play less and Neal & Joe seem to have clicked rather well.
Final: (1) Oliver Marach & Mate Pavic (AUT/CRO) CR 5 (2+3) vs Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski CR 81 (38+43)
It may come down to that but just if Marach & Pavic win their Saturday SF vs M Bryan & Roger-Vasselin. Their win tonight was a QF win.
Silly me! Forgot all about the small matter of the semi-final - inspite of mentioning it earlier myself! Was getting a bit carried away & forgetting that the rounds were a wee bit out of sync!
Verdasco is always a tough proposition (well not always, when he wants to be) and I suspect Edmund had less steam left. Time to pick up and have one last push in Paris (assuming London is little or no chance now)
Nishikori has reached the final here so is also now out of Kyle's possible Paris reach. The best he can be after Paris is #10 ( terrible eh ) and 8 of the top 9 are fit enough to be in the Paris draw - ie all except Del Potro.
But yes indeed, one last good week would be pleasing to see.
That's an amazing win for the guys, what a way to cap the season off! Joe's progress this season has been incredible as has the improvement in Neal's game over the last 18 months or so. They are going to give the DC selectors a few headaches.
