RE: Jack Draper

Beeb are reporting that Jack is out of the United Cup due to hip injury. He hopes to play the Australian Open but will sit out the Davis Cup tie cry

Jack playing in a really strong Rotterdam event post AO - assuming hes fit -

www.dartsrankings.com/tennis/rotterdam

6 of top 10, 10 of top 20 entered.

Always enjoy Rotterdam as a tournie, with Vienna and Basle, those 3 indoor events are my favourite 500 level events

Interesting analysis of Jack from tennis abstract

www.tennisabstract.com/blog/2025/03/18/jack-drapers-work-in-progress/

Be less passive, and the world is his oyster.

An analysis by Delgo of why Jack "has the game of a grand slam contender" following his IW title win & loss to Mensik in Miami, slightly spoilt by the inclusion of a photo of Rune in the "Returns" section.  The article was apparently archived a week ago & it has been removed from the on-line version I've just read!

Would have far more respect for an article like that if Delgado had written it two or three years ago or the publishers had published it two to three years ago

Saying that someone has the game of a Grand Slam contender now, when they're already in the top-10 and on the way up, is just blah-blah

Interview with Jack on the ATP site dating from the start of his run-up to the IW title.  Interesting final question:

Who's your greatest rival?

I feel like I'm yet to find it on the ATP Tour. Since I was very young, I've had lots in the U.K. And one of the guys who's emerging onto the Tour now is Jacob Fearnley. He's a good friend and a crazy good competitor as well. So I'd say, since I was young, it's probably been him. I'm looking forward to hopefully playing him many times being from the same country as well.

With Jack up to 5 in the rankings with little to defend at the French and Wimbledon (esp. compared to Alcaraz) I'm just wondering who the last Brit to make the top 3 would be other than Andy? Has any other man made the top 3 ever? From memory Tim and Greg both had career highs of 4....I guess maybe you'd have to go back to Perry in the 1930s and what ever kinds of rankings they had back then? Would Virginia Wade or Sue Barker have been ranked that high or even Jo Durie?

....It's SO fun to see how he's already exceeding (all?) our rankings predictions anyway!

 Well

in 1934 A. Wallis Myers, President of the International Federation at the time - who had authority on these things - rated Fred Perry 1 - this was September 34

in 1975, the ITF rankings placed Virginia Wade at 2

In 1977, Sue Barker was placed 3

as you say, Tim and Greg both reached 4

and in 1984, Jo Durie was ranked 5 on the WTA.

all according to wikipedia

Emmsie predicted WR5 and there were a few others with a top 10 prediction - but the average was as low as 12.

I just remembered the predictions thread and thought I'd have a wander onto it to see what I predicted Jacks ranking to be but you've answered the question here.

Yes I'd noticed when scanning through the predictions yesterday that you were the only one I noticed above about 12  emmsie! Well done!
