Week 42 - ITF ($100K) - Suzhou, China - Hard

Yeah, a win at 100k level whoever it was against makes it worth it. Quite fortunate to get the WC, but her junior ranking is quite high so maybe better than I was expecting.

On the flip side, now that Doi is out as well as Kudermotva, a potential path of Lu-Tomova/(not fully fit)Swan for a SF place for Boulter would have been taken.

Good to see Katie S back and get a win. Hopefully the rustiness is gone now.

It's a show of how far Katie B has come over the last year. She wouldn't have beaten a top 200 by such a scoreline a year ago. That said after dominating the first set she did struggle with her last two service games in the set, losing her serve when at 4-1 and then struggling to close it out in her next service game, taking a 16 point game to do so. The second set looks to have been more competitive than the scoreline suggests. Katie lost 7 straight points in the 3rd and 4th games and faced 7 BPs in total in the set, but only lost one of them. 1st serve % was again just below 50% for the match.

KS is playing now. Lost the first set 3-6. Second set has just gone to a TB with neither playing being able to hold serve in the last 5 games.

Pity; Katie S loses 3-6 in the 3rd after 2.5 hours...decent fight and a good work out after her injury lay off.
Katie B up to #92 in the live rankings biggrin

Yeah, not too disappointed. She got a win and looks to have competed well here and at least we'll all have the same person to cheer now. On the other hand, a guaranteed semi finalist and extra points would have been nice mind.

Didn't realise she was 3-1 up, that's a shame.

Pity that Katie S lost, but still a good comeback after injury.

Well done to Katie B for a convincing win, even if her serving stats were not fantastic - she had 10 BPs against her during the match, but lost only 2. Katie now gets Tomova.
Katie B is now up to live rank 92 and her Aus Open MD place should be secure now. It's Heather for whom it will be more touch and go as she is now only live rank 99.

R16: Katie BOULTER (GBR) [4] 96 beat Jia-Jing LU (CHN) 189 (CH:174 July 18) 6-2 6-2
R16: Katie SWAN (GBR) 165 lost to Viktoriya TOMOVA (BUL) 162 (CH:128 July 18) 3-6 7-6(4) 3-6

QF: Katie BOULTER (GBR) [4] 96 vs Viktoriya TOMOVA (BUL) 162 (CH:128 July 18)

In points won this year Boulter is 98th and Watson 99th so they both should just sneak in to Aus Open if they fail to add to their tally

Well done to Katie B!
Looks like a close-run thing for Katie S.

Katie has a guaranteed 629 points and Heather 628 points for the Aus Open main draw entry deadline. Katie can still add more points here and has a 25K and 125K to come. Her 15 and 16th counters are 9 points each.
Heather for the moment just has an 80K to come. She has a couple of 1 point counters so could look to play somewhere else before bringing an end to her season, possibly the USA 80K and/or 125K next month.

edit: as Indy points out Katie has a guaranteed 633 points
