A win for Kasia - but losses for the other three. All matches went to three sets.

What a shame - all three of the 'new' players of the circuit lost out in long three set matches.

Only Kasia came through (again in three)

Damn that's really disappointing in all three cases, but Sasha especially. Having had a chance to acclimatise, I had hoped she would qualify this week

Oh and OOP for tomorrow shows Ola with a WC into the MD. She and Kasia are the only Brits in doubles this week too.

Kasia plays the person Ola beat easily in qualifying last week. Next week Kasia will also have a ranking; Ola still chasing hers.

Ola wins 2 & 1 - the counter she needs to get her ranking - but not for long, as she has a dropper coming up very soon

Yes that's a good result against someone that is in the top 1000. Her first counter drops off 5/11 so she needs another one before then to keep the ranking she will get the week before then. However she and Kasia are not playing next week, so it is likely her return to the rankings will be highly temporary until she can get the additional counter. These are all transition tour points of course, so good in that respect.

R32: Aleksandra PITAK (GBR) [WC] UNR beat Ramya NATARAJAN (IND) 976 (CH:943 Sept 18) 19yrs 6-2 6-1

Nice one, Ola. I guess the whole three counter thing is pretty much obsolete now as she could win the title in three 15ks in the next three weeks and still be wta unranked on Jan.1st.
But it's important that she's geting wins, and comfortable ones too, over higher ranked players. The Pitaks march on...

For me, the only thing I'm not fully clear on is whether a single 25k point will give a woman player a WTA ranking next year, instead of the 3 counters currently required. For instance that would mean that Mandy, who will lose her WTA ranking next week, but has at least earned 1 25k (or above) counter in the last month, has 1 WTA point... Is that enough for her to have a WTA ranking beginning of next year?

Not in the shadow rankings. But everything I have seen on WTA ranking points for next year has been TBA so it may not have been decided.

Ok thanks RS, I thought you would know best on the current status on this.   Maybe they are waiting to see how many players actually have WTA ranking points at the end of this year before they finalise their decision making on how the new tour will work. I saw one remark to suggest it would not come fully into effect until later in January. An actual transition date doesn't seem to have been indicated yet.

The conversion date is 31 December. That was announced quite some time ago. For tournaments in 2019 where the entry deadline is before 31 December entry will be determined by the players' shadow rankings. You'll notice that OER use the new system for ranking dates from 31 Dec.
