Week 41 - ITF ($25K) - Obidos, Portugal - Carpet

Wasn't sure if Beth was going to be playing here this week as she is not in the doubles draw that was released earlier. However, she is in the singles and has a favourable first round draw too.

R32: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) 450 vs Maria GUTIERREZ CARRASCO (ESP) 558 (CH:545 July 18)

Beth just served for the match, having recovered from *1-3 to *5-3 - but was broken from 40-0

Beth broken for 4-5*

It's the third time that she has been broken in the third set and she has previously broken straight back. Needs to do so again!

Sadly Beth will be feeling rather sick right now, having been 40-0 up with 3 MPs at *5-3 in the second set. cry

Lost the last three games in the final set. Closing out sets is becoming a bit of a problem for Beth, there have been a few matches that have gone this way recently.

Sadly, not 'becoming' a bit of a problem......

Such a pity. Beth could / should already be the player ahead in the battle to push on into the top 400 and take up one of these GB #9 and #10 ranking positions rather than just now being a little behind Fran and Maia.

But if she can develop more confidence or whatever, so that she can more finish off from some positions she creates then certainly at least top 400 can come.

I get the impression Beth has always been rather playing catch-up compared to others in developing confidence and self belief. She needs her belief to catch up with a game that has clearly improved this year.
