Surprised no one in the press has picked up and ran a story on Mukhtar success in becoming youngest ranked player...lets see if they do when he appears on the actual rankings
So I believe we have a match between the highest ranked 16 yo in the world and the soon to be highest ranked 14 yo in the world and they are both Brits.
Has anyone established for sure that there are no currently ranked 14 yos ?
If only theyd got a roof on the Burgess Park tennis courts a little earlier! Southwark that well known hot bed of tennis has nurtured the worlds highest ranked 14 year old! Obviously a deserved shout out to the highly paid LTA coaches of Southwark Park tennis club and the resources they have ploughed into it
Mukhtar may have his work cut at here but was part of the GB U12s who put France to the sword in his youth!

It might not be totally correct but the OpenEra ranking site filter shows that there is just one 15 year old and a few 16 year olds ranked
Due to Mukhtar being so young I was looking into age restrictions on entering tournaments. I see between 14 and 15 you can play 8 atp events and then 15-16 12. Am I right in thinking that there are no restrictions on ITF events such as futures?

I'm assuming this is a tongue in cheek comment... having been a member there a few years ago and now still regularly in contact with them on the opposite side of the net I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a huge influx of funding from the LTA. The club was run as a social enterprise when they convinced Southwark council to let a group of volutneers take over and run the club themselves. Southwark are now trying to get back in the mix following on from what was a successfully run tennis club with a great junior contingent.
Absolutely, so firmly in cheek it was almost choking me, there is a thread which was aimed at garnering online support for a petition to reconsider the withdrawal of funds for the roofing over of some of the courts as per the original plans, agreed the club is very impressive not your conventional club and catering to an inner city community that in the balance of probabilities would never have picked up a tennis racket and now have a part in developing the youngest ranked tennis player in the world!
Southwark Council arent all bad and have been very positive in supporting other community based clubs, I am primarily referencing the struggles of Dulwich Hamlet FC again a resurgent force purely because of the community supporting it. One can only be optimistic that they will now see the value in suporting and resourcing the tennis club. Kids having fun in what was a run down Park with BMX and tennis side by side who would have thought it!
Congratulations Mukhtar, Jack needs to watch his back hopefully we will have a diverse group of players chasing him down sometime soon.
