Oh she's been missing for a bit longer than that Tom, since she's been carrying injuries/ illnesses for quite a while, so obviously I am wanting to see her back fully fit again, I think that's clear.
And at 5-2 Gabi is pulled back to 5-4, then has a MTO for treatment to her back, and she has her thigh strapped up... which is really my point in that she is clearly still not fully fit yet.
big straping now on gabi right thigh
her groundies much loopier today than early this year less penetrashun thru the court seems to be acommodating some physical limmitation
Yes maybe it was her hip/ thigh the treatment was for. All very tentative in her shot making now, she's not ok, and very frustrated as she is broken to love.
But at least she has broken back again now, also to love, and will serve for the set again *6-5
Saves a BP then wins the game and set, Myers making enough errors to hand Gabi a few points, though one good wide serve in there too.
The match looks like it is now being called off, maybe rain, hard to tell, can hear it rather than see it. It's the last stages of dusk so floodlights are on now.
The rain is a bit harder now, can still hear rather than see it... So score at interruption is now 2-6 7-5. Probably good for Gabi to get more treatment.

The final set of Gabi's match, and the balance of Jodie's doubles have now been carried over to the start tomorrow. If Gabi is fit enough and can manage to sustain her recovery in the final set, she will then not have too much of a break before being due back on court again in the third match of the day (ie with just one men's singles match inbetween).
A very frustrated Gabi. Things not going her way in the breezy conditions. A net cord drops just her side end of the 8th game to give a break to Myers, and then in the final game after Gabi hit two good backhands to go 15-30 up, she follows with an UE, and then Myers gets a really lucky net cord to give her MP and Gabi then failed to get the next serve back.
A set and match of small margins, but Gabi has still to win a match this Aussie run. Has a week off now before resuming in 10 days or so time. She still needs match fitness, her game lacking the punch it had early in the year. Today's conditions were breezy and in the end Myers was just steadier, Gabi making the greater number of unforced errors. There is nothing special about Myers game, but Gabi wasn't able to unpick her often, many long rallies waiting for the error, and it was more likely to be Gabi that made it. Her serve seems down on what it was earlier in the year, and very few down the line or cross court winners from Gabi of the type she was again getting in her first Aussie swing. Less variation in her game too, almost no drop shots or coming forward, but she wasn't moving Myers around enough to do the latter. Her thigh was still strapped today, but mobility didn't seem an issue, just generally lacks the edge and zip to her game she had before. Too pedestrian at the moment, but let's hope with a bit more practice her ball striking ability will come back. Gabi doesn't have a powerful game, and at the moment it is just too inviting for opponents. There weren't many points on or off serve that she was dominating today. Still it's good to see her back on the court and hope her match sharpness returns soon.
