Lotus Rayani is Brisbane-based. Ive played her younger brother in club fixtures! . Family originate from the SE of UK and have moved to Australia within the last few years.
Safe to say she is much better than him although she is around 5 years older!

Thanks FLG, good to know a bit more about her! Must admit it was the first time I'd come across her rather striking name.

Just to add she is ranked around 230 in QLD. If she gets through 1 or 2 rounds of qualifying, that will be a major achievement.
I note that Vivian Heisen, conqueror of both Jodie and Gabi last week, and who only lost to Ellen Perez in two TBs in the SF in Brisbane, still has to play qualies here in Toowoomba, and doesn't even have a first round bye either. Fortunately no Brits are in her section of the q draw this week, but she must also be pretty exhausted after her 7 matches this past week, finishing today, ie she doesn't have even a day's break before starting her 8th match in 8 days.

Oh and just to note that Heisen gave a walkover in her QR1 match today. I thought she was being treated unfairly by being made to play her 8th day in a row. She should have qualified for some form of WC/ SE exemption based on her 7 wins to get to the SF last week.
No doubt MD WC was the only possibility and maybe these were already lined up / promised. The SE rules are the SE rules and on the whole that's good and not subject to anyone's whim. As far as these were concerned, she could play qualifiers.
Hmm, yes, after her one good week, Jodie has had a couple of very disappointing weeks since. Her loss here is to Soumeya's doubles partner, Julia Kimmelmann, and once more she and Soumeya have to play a doubles qualifying match. I hope they can win this one. At least they do seem to have held over Julia's FQR match until tomorrow, so she is only playing one singles match and one doubles match today.
not yet 9am on monday and these results already got me feeling winded much dissapoint
we had this last year in each of the two oz blocks we started out real real bad with all players barely doing anything
picked up towards the end of the runs
In the doubles there are already 4 pairs with Brits in them, 5 if Soumeya and Julia make it through, which I hope they do. None to play each other in the first round.
Freya and Erin Routliffe (NZL) are top seeds.
Katy and Olivia Tjandramulia (AUS) are second seeds.
Gabi is playing with Dalma Galfi (HUN), and
Jodie is playing with Albina Khabibulina (UZB)
