Given Fran's issues and she may be playing twice today, I would necessarily expect her to turn up.

Jizel has won her first q round match here, and it's a truly excellent win She's not likely to win her next match though.

Fran is here as a SE, draws 6th seed Shinikova who she beat in Hammamet last year.

Shinikova ranked 270 this week and was 133 18 months ago, but without wanting to do a disservice to SBG, if Beth can beat her last week then it should at least be winnable. The winner here will face a Q in the 2nd round and the top 2 seeds, who do stand out - Badosa-Gibert and Bolsova - would be avoided until at least the semi final. Not that I want to get too far ahead of myself mind as I'd imagine on paper, she'd likely be 2nd favourite in her 1st round match despite that win last year.

The rain seems to be following Fran around. Looks like her first round match scheduled today will be postponed until tomorrow now.

A great first set from Fran, continuing her form from last week, as she goes 6-1 up over Shinikova.
Now to see if she can maintain her play.

Fran pulled back the second set from a 1-4 deficit to *4-5, but then lost a 26 point service game to lose the set. Now one set all at 6-1 4-6

Five set points saved, and five game points lost in that last game - if I've counted the momentum graph right.
Last four games were all breaks of serve.
Big effort needed to start the set. SHinikova serving first
