Yes indeed and getting used to the heat- secured a win in the doubles- told played some fantastic tennis to get there!

Good, I hope the doubles will help her get acclimatised and she will be in a better position next week, come the qualifying singles. Unfortunately next week's entry list looks the toughest of these three weeks, whilst by the following week, which Sasha is not on, the draw looks very depleted once more. Still next week's list is not overwhelming, and there will likely be more withdrawals beforehand.

Oh school yes, well um that... I hope she makes the most of her experience in the coming week plus then. smile

Learning to cope with that heat is part of it - ironically it is a relatively pleasant time of the year there, but still the night time temps (mid 20s) are better for playing than the day time ones (low 30s).

An extremely impressive performance from Ola Pitak as she recovers from 4-6 *3-5 down to take her second set against Barbara Bonic into a TB.

She was 5-1 up in that TB. And 6-4 with 2 SPs.
But ended up losing it 8-6 :(
Shame but decent performance.....

Oh dear.... from 4-1 and 6-4 up in the TB Ola sadly loses the next four points to go down in two sets.. I really thought she was going to take it into the third set after that superb comeback of hers. smilecry

So in the end despite that extremely impressive performance from Ola, but like that of Emilie against the top seed ultimately not enough, it is just Kasia that progresses into the second round having had the only relatively easy draw.

R32: Emilie LINDH (GBR) [WC] 1054 lost to Jacqueline CABAJ AWAD (SWE) [1] 593 (CH:458 Sept 17) 6-7(5) 4-6
R32: Katarzyna PITAK (GBR) UNR beat Iuliia SOKOLOVSKAIA (RUS) UNR (CH:1149 Feb 18) 6-0 3-6 6-0
R32: Aleksandra PITAK (GBR) [Q] UNR lost to Barbara BONIC (SUI) [3] 638 (CH:342 March 14) 4-6 6-7(6)

R16: Katarzyna PITAK (GBR) UNR vs Lamis ALHUSSEIN ABDEL AZIZ (EGY) [WC 5] 778=CH

Kasia was actually up 3-1 in the first set, so after then won only 1 more game the entire match, which is disappointing.

R16: Katarzyna PITAK (GBR) UNR lost to Lamis ALHUSSEIN ABDEL AZIZ (EGY) [WC 5] 778=CH 3-6 1-6

Pity. But at least Kasia will have a ranking, maintaining us at 30 ranked women on Monday week, replacing poor Mandy Carreras.

28 of these are now guaranteed ending the year ranked under the current system. The remaining 2 who can lose their ranking are Alice Gillan and Mirabelle Njoze, both of whom are due to drop to 2 counters on 29/10.

Great for Sasha and Sophie to get to the SF... but oh, the first match the Pitaks have lost in three tournaments now. And they were 5-2 up in the first set... which led me to wondering whether Kasia has picked up an injury or bug that is hampering her since she tailed off in her singles earlier today in very similar fashion.

Top seeds next for Sasha and Sophie. They won today comfortably, but I expect Sasha and Sophie to run them closer tomorrow.

SF: Sasha Hill/ Sophie Muntean (GBR/FRA) UNR (UNR+854) vs Barbara Bonic/ Jelena Stojanovic (SRB/AUS) [1] 1175 (627+548)

Could just be knackered from playing two matches every day or nearly so for the last 3 weeks?
