Pliskova (0&1) and Hibino (0&3) go out in style to their respective seeds, meaning that Katie is now guaranteed at WR98 at worst if there are some very, very exceptional results.
As a fan of Muguruza, I definitely can. This is the first time since the French Open that Garbine might win 3 matches in a row! (But I'm obviously not hoping for Kumkhum to win)
Kumkhum stands about as much chance of beating Muguruza as Gasparyan beating Bertens .....
I know this was tongue in cheek, but not in betting terms she doesn't. Gasparyan was 9/4 to beat Bertens, significantly lower than Kumkhum's odds.
Coincidentally, Kumkhum is actually the same odds as Katie to beat their far more illustrious opponents, both 9/2 (Mugu, Pliskova 1/7) and while I myself am a big Muguruza fan like flamingowings, I'm sure most on here would settle for a couple of 9/2 wins tomorrow morning.
Bertens has had a very good year, but her level has dropped a little recently, whilst Gasparyan is improving fast. Kumkhum has a very solid defence, and as Alize found out, will take some beating. So the odds don't really surprise me.
