Lost 63 63. Had a couple of chances to get the break back in the second and saved 3 match points in a long final game before going out.

Hope she sneaks into the doubles draw.

Katie B draws 8th seed Sakkari in the first round. Tough match.

I'd have much preferred her to play someone like WC Yuan or a lowly ranked qualifier to make it more likely to get that win on her top 100 quest, but I suppose if she did have ambitions of making the QF then you'll more than likely have to put out a seed on the way, so the 8th seed is more favourable than a Singapore chasing Pliskova for example.

I'm a big fan of Sakkari and she has largely had an excellent year but she has lost in the first round of 4 of her last 7 tournaments since reaching the San Jose final, admittedly all to players much higher ranked than Katie, but hopefully it'll be 5/8 in a couple of days.

This would really be an excellent win for Katie should she do so. She will certainly start a long way from being the favourite though.

R32: Katie BOULTER (GBR) 109 vs Maria SAKKARI (GRE] [8] 43

Sakkari is obviously favourite, but the odds are closer than I was expecting, 4/9 vs 13/8 (Katie).

Anyone know what happened with Katie Swan here? She pulled out of quals but I think is still down for the Chinese 100k next week. Just needed another week to recover following the US Open niggle? Would be a long way to go for one tournament mind (unless she is playing some of the later ITFs there).

Yes, suspect that she did just need another week.

As you say she is still shown as down for that 100K, she is an entrant for the following week's Chinese 25K and the two weeks after that sees China host a 60K and a 100K.

No doubles interest. A couple of teams who already qualified for Singapore are here and the cut is very high.

Katie not playing tomorrow

As was being projected last week, in the latest rankings Katie is WR 101 on 596 points, just 2 points behind WR 100 Ons Jabeur.

Before her R1 match here, in live rankings she is up one place to live #100 ( will definitely overtake Golubic and Brady, has so far been overtaken by Yastremska ).

It is though a very precarious live #100. In particular if Katie doesn't add points this week, most immediately 3 players are currently one win from overtaking her :
Ferro - currently in Linz L32
Kumkhum - currently in Hong Kong L16
Kozlova - currently in Tianjin L32 ( and a possible L16 opponent for Katie )

Kozlova retired at 1-4, so Katie should be on soon.
