Four breaks to five in the two sets - this could go either way

Fran wins, 6-4 in the third. Outstanding results. Chiesa may not be at a career high, but literally 4 months ago she was beating Hon, Zidansek (clay specialist) and Rus on her way to qualifying for the French Open and I'm sure she had multiple MPs against Bencic in the main draw.

Amazing. Go Fran!

So pleased.  Let's hope she gets a reasonable rest before the next one.  With any luck it will start raining again!

Super result, Fran ! (Chiesa is the girl that Katie Swan beat in the US Open, isn;t she?)

Good luck in the next one.

Yes, by an identical scoreline funnily enough.

Yes, a wonderful result for Fran! On that form, her next match is potentially winnable too.

R16: Francesca JONES (GBR) [Q] 475 beat Deborah CHIESA (ITA) [5] 236 (CH:143 June 18) 3-6 6-4 6-4

QF: Francesca JONES (GBR) [Q] 475 vs Andrea GAMIZ (VEN) 348 (CH:244 April 18)

Her QF opponent, Andrea Gamiz, also finished her match today, and it was also three sets - and exactly the same time, 2 hours 24 minutes.

That was 2-1 in the third set a couple of days ago when Fran was just at 1-1 in the first set so she'll definitely have played a lot less tennis today, but hopefully the disruption and not knowing when she will get on and finish her match might have an impact.

Ah, I looked back over the scores, and couldn't see how far they had got. The third set was 54 minutes though, so not a quick one. I see the initial order of play is for the match to be on court 3 not before 4pm, but the schedule doesn't match the live scores, as men's qualifying is under way for the following week.

Fran takes the first set 6-4. Won 5 games in a row to make it 5-2, was broken to love when serving for it at *5-3, but then broke back to love.
