Reasonable draws for both players, but still have to beat higher ranked opposition.

R32: Alicia BARNETT (GBR) [Q] 533 vs Lisa SABINO (SUI) 361 (CH:315 Dec 08)
R32: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) 446 vs Natalija KOSTIC (SRB) 383 (CH:377 Sept 18)

Pretty inevitable really, unless they draw qualifiers. wink  Beth is right on the cusp of DA anyway, and Lissey isn't far behind.

Just over the hour, which will please Valeria, who lost her singles today in a match lasting almost three hours

Cross fingers ..... Beth had just won the first set 6-2.

Interestingly, Kostic is another of those who was a top junior (had a CH of  JWR 5) but is now 24 and still hasn't broken the top 350.

Allez, Beth !

Three consecutive breaks in the second set, then Beth just about hangs on to hold. 4-1*

Beth got it to 6-2 *5-3 and had two MPs, but has now lost 7 pts straight for the score to go back to *5-5 in the second set.

Now Beth has just won her first service game in the last three to take the score to 6-5*

Phew. Seven breaks of serve in that set, but Beth gets past the first round for the first time since July (also in Portugal, but on clay that time) 6-2 7-5

Shinikova has just been taken to 3 sets by the WR 846, so Beth has a chance against her.

R16: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) 446 vs Isabella SHINIKOVA (BUL) [3] 270 (CH:133 Feb 17)

In terms of her points, to note that Beth is +4 after this first round win... and that takes her to 82 points, just 1 pt behind Laura in the GB #10 position. So one more win and Beth will take over from Laura the week after next. Fran and Tara also still have opportunities this week of getting there too.

Potentially a new CH as well, depending on how a few players just ahead of Beth perform this week. Could be 435, or just below.

A lot of very tight games, but Lissey nicks the first set 6-4.... Struggling to save her serve at the start of the second set now.
