Week 40 - WTA Premier Mandatory ($8.3M) - Beijing, China Hard

Live rankings sites agree that Katie has been edged out of the live top 100 by Ons Jabeur's qualification here and L64 win over Simona Halep ( 6-1 0-0 ) retired. Simona - hope you are OK by the way. So WR 101 at best next Monday.

100. Jabeur 598 ( up 75 net points )
101. Boulter 596 ( up 25 net points )

Still that big window before the start of April ( just 4 counters totalling 67 points due off before then ) but it would be rather nice just to get the top 100 business ticked off.

And as Ace Ventura said, 48 of these 67 points are due off before the Australian Open entry list rankings date (03/12), and ensuring MD entry there is presumably a big short term target.

Jabeur lost her L32 match to Vekic so next Monday she will have just these 2 ranking points more than Katie.

I see Osaka with her win today over Diyas joins Halep and Kerber as qualified for WTA Finals

Katie is now in Tianjin directly. It's a pretty strong field with 10 of the top 50 involved so I'm not sure if it's the opposite of a blessing in disguise, but I guess it's more main draw experience and she may well draw a Q or a WC, but if she draws the likes of Garcia, Sabalenka, Mertens, Martic etc. then I can't see too many points being added. Should help Katie S a bit in the Qs as well as stronger players will be joining her as a seed now.

I think I read that in 2019 they are moving Nanchang from just after Wimbledon to just after US Open and in the same week as Hiroshima and Quebec which is good as Katie B would have been a comfortable seed at that tournament, one of the higher ranked ones, whereas here she just sneaked in via withdrawals.

Kvitova and Wozniacki also over the line today, making it 5 qualifiers (at least unofficially, WTA not announced yet).

Edit - live rankings seems to have back tracked on these last two qualifiers and is now showing it as 3 once again. Guess they miscalculated

Edit #2 - WTA are now reporting Wozniacki and Kvitova as qualified so it is official now
