Hmm, tough draws and maybe a little unlucky that they have drawn 1-8 seeds rather than 9-16, but that said, they are lower end top seeds and they have avoided the top 5. If they can get through these then they will have a decent chance to progress into the main draw.
Both opponents have been playing well in Asia so any win here would be a bonus, but I didn't even realise either were playing Beijing (know KB is playing Tianjin quals next week) so that's a nice surprise in itself.

Wonderful from Katie, well done. Her 20 points will carry her to the verges of the top 100, but even if she qualifies it will not take her into the top 100, she will also likely need a first round win to get there. There is a big gap this week of 26 points between 100 and 101. I haven't checked what will happen with those players next week, but safe to say that Katie will need the additional points to get there.
Main draw is out, and as usual Jo has a tough starter - Julia Georges seeded 10. And Naomi Osaka is in her section as well, if she makes it to the thrd round.
Even with a MD first round win, Katie won't quite break the top 100, regardless of what other players do - it would take her to 611 points, still 7 short of Kr Plskova who is 100 on live rankings. Edging closer though !

Ah yes, I hadn't seen the MD yet and hadn't realised/ remembered she would only get another 10 points for the round 1 win, because it is a R64 draw. It seems strange that she gets 20 points for a QR1 win, but will only get another 20 points added for two more wins, including in the MD!
Katie is 100 on the live rankings for 8/10, so surely she just needs not to do any worse than those below her to be top 100? She's 8 points behind Brady in 99th in the live rankings, and Brady is out of Beijing.
I only looked at today's live rankings (which don't show her points from today yet), rather than the following week. But it looks as if several of the players immediately above her aren't playing in Beijing, so that will make quite a difference. There are several players dropping points at the end of next week (Vesnina for one drops 120 points).
Hev takes the first set 6-3, no idea how it went and breaks of serve etc. Diyas-Niculescu has gone into a deciding set and that's who she will face if she gets past Kenin.
