RE: Week 39 - ITF ($25K) - Clermont-Ferrand, France Hard

Ms. Grey is in the MD, and as is the current pattern for the GB ladies, has drawn a seed: #6, Melnikova 259.

Some small consolation for Beth - Melnikova is dropping 51 points from a 25k clay court win next week, which will drop her to around WR307, so not quite so daunting.

And she lost in the first round at Lisbon last week to a qualifier, Brouleau WR708

Emily gets a qualifier, but it's current Wimbledon juniors runner up Kung. Eden gets the 4th seed.

Emily may have drawn the fellow qualifier but she won't win. If anyone does it will be Beth, though she will not be favourite.

Emily didn't take her chances in the first set (1/5 BP won), and lost the set 6-4.
*2-2 in the second

Emily and Beth were up a break but now in trouble.

Emily lost to this pair last year with Shapatava

In Emiliy's match, the scoreboard has frozen at match point, so presumably...
Emily lost 6-4 6-3. And as I said earlier, didn't take her chances with 2/10 BP won against 4/8.

In the doubles, Beth and Emily were (as Paul said) 3-1 up - then 3-4 down, but take the first set 6-4

Great stuff. They really had to cling on in the early stages of the second

Emily A and her Columbian partner having a hard time of it. Just held serve for the first time. 0-6 1-2*

Their opponents rankings are a bit misleading. Harmony Tan has a CH of 449 from earlier this year, whilst Margot Yerolymos CH was 348 just over a year ago, but hasn't played doubles this year until now.

First round doubles completed. Not a great day for Emily following her earlier singles loss, but good progress for the other 3. Emily + did save 2 MPs at *3-5 and pulled the 2nd set back to 5-5 but then lost the next two games again to lose the match.

R16: Eden SILVA/ Julia TERZIYSKA (GBR/BUL) 977 (601+376) beat Emma LENE/ Lea THOLEY (FRA/FRA) 2189 6-4 6-3

A good first set from Eden, but she then ran out of steam. She will be followed on court by Beth, the last Brit still in the singles.

R1: GREY, Sarah Beth (GBR) 440 v MELNIKOVA, Marina (RUS) 6 259

R1: SILVA, Eden (GBR) Q 483 lost to KERKHOVE, Lesley (NED) 4 261 7-6(5) 1-6 2-6
R1: APPLETON, Emily (GBR) 5 505 lost to KUNG, Leonie (SUI) Q 453 4-6 3-6

Young Clara Burel, who soundly beat Emma Rad at the Junior US Open, and made the final, has just beaten Margot Y, ranked about 400, extremely easily.
