Week 39 - ITF ($60k) - Darwin, Australia - Hard

Interesting start for Jodie. Not a huge disparity in rankings between the two, with Jodie due to rise to +/- 430 week after next. On paper Freya has a great draw first up

QR1: Jodie Anna BURRAGE (GBR) 468 vs Sara TOMIC (AUS) [q8] 438 (CH:379 June 16)

QR1: Freya CHRISTIE (GBR) 525 vs Kirijana PETRESKI (AUS) UNR 18yrs (JCH:1222 July 17)

Unfortunately, the winners will meet in QR2

The promising Uchijima heads up the section and would be a potential FQR opponent if either Jodie or Freya make it that far.

Yes, that's very unfortunate. When I first posted only the OOP was available, not the draw itself.

Well, it will only be unfortunate if they both win. Won't really matter otherwise. Maybe that makes it better ? smilecry

Freya double bagelled her opponent, giving up just 2 points in the 1st set and 9 in the 2nd

Jodie took the 1st set against Tomic but is now an early break down in the 3rd

Jodie won in the end (it's Tomic's 8th loss in a row, though the last 3 have all gone to 3 sets) to set up an all-GB QR2 match, for which Freya leads the ITF H2H 3-0 (I imagine they might actually have played each other quite a few more times!), with a 3 & 4 win in Loughborough this year after two wins in 2013.

Yes, as Steven notes, routine expected win for Freya, and a good win for Jodie, unfortunately sets up the QR2 match that seemed quite likely to happen. It means one player will be restricted to 1pt only for this week, the other will get 3pts and a likely shot at Moyuka Uchijima (WR 372) in the FQR.

QR1: Jodie Anna BURRAGE (GBR) 468 beat Sara TOMIC (AUS) [q8] 438 (CH:379 June 16) 6-4 4-6 6-3
QR1: Freya CHRISTIE (GBR) 525 beat Kirijana PETRESKI (AUS) UNR 18yrs (JCH:1222 July 17) 6-0 6-0

QR2: Jodie Anna BURRAGE (GBR) 468 vs Freya CHRISTIE (GBR) 525 cry

Uchijima has just turned 17 and is/was a talented junior but her 2nd round opponent Zlochova is the slight favourite at the bookies to come through that one.

You'd have to probably fancy Jodie to come through her match on current form.

Katy Dunne is 6th seed in the MD and is drawn against a qualifier

Jodie and Freya are playing doubles together, in the doubles quali draw.

Katy is playing with Kim Birrell, in the MD.

Here's hoping Freya gets on a good run here then...could do with it if she's going to be GB #10 and world #249 by year end!
