Evo was arguing that Gabashvili had said "no" just before taking a shot, when one of Evo's had touched the line. Evo said it put him off his volley and went on and on about it.
Neck is suitably wound in now, though, and he's really on song in this 3rd set. Dragging his opponent this way and that!
'All's well that ends well' - for Evo anyway, on this occasion.
Some nice play and lets hope he gets tomorrow off to go to one of those beaches Michael D mentioned . (I wistfully checked flights to Marseille just now but no cheap ones it seems.)
Muller is a 21-year-old French player who was a pretty big star in the making as a junior and then got dropped at 18 because the Federation didn't think he'd got what it took.
He lost motivation and had some injuries and then refound his way a little by moving back to his region and basing himself in Provence. The Ligue there have a system where he gets 30 euros for each ATP point. And the FFT are now slightly more in favour too. He got a wildcard into RG qualis and won two matches before losing to Ruud.
He's certainly not chopped liver; he's technically good and a decent player. Dan will have to be on form. But you don't feel that Muller is really racing up the rankings and Dan should certainly win.....
Poor start from Evo with a long first service game, with at least three double-faults, few first serves, about 4 BPs saved, but the final one conceded.
Well, Dan didn't deserve that set and duly loses it 3-6
Never sure that morning games are Dan's thing.....
He's also got himself well uptight about the ballkids - which doesn't endear you to the crowd or the umpire.
It's true there was one little girl who was all fingers and thumbs (bless) and didn't really know what she was doing. She's either been replaced or moved to the near end as I can't see her now. But Dan's trying to get the umpire to control the kids 100%, when to roll the balls etc. etc. And the kids are looking jumpy, the umpire is trying, and it's all a red herring really - apart from the one girl, they've all been fine - again, it's just Dan not playing well and venting a bit.....
Dan seems to be making a comeback in the 2nd set, 3-0 now. He seems to do this quite often (from memory, eg last match versus Gabashvili) where he starts slowly and loses first set and gets stronger. Dont have results to hand but interesting to see if that is really his recent pattern or just my memory playing tricks?
Dan obviously doesn't like early starts ! Waking up now 3-0* in the second
I recall a tournament, where Greg was on site supporting, and he had to get his charges up after he had done his morning workout. They included Kyle, Dan and Oli (or at least they were there at that tourny and he spent most of his time with Kyle who was 17 at the time)
