Week 36 - Challenger - Cassis Open Provence, France (€64,000) (hard)

Dan Evans is playing here but didn't quite make the main draw, but he's the top seed in qualis:

QR1: (q1) Dan Evans (GBR) WR 224 - BYE

Unsurprisingly his current ranking would easily have got him in, but I guess it'll take while to kick in.

Looking at the MD field he's got a decent chance of going deep in this, if not winning if he's not suffering from burn out with having to go through qualies.

Both Dan's q matches are tomorrow, so he will have a busy day.

Unless Dan is messing around, it won't take him long to beat Cayre.

Gabashvili in the FQR may be a bit tougher though.

I noticed Dan is playing in doubles with Jonny O'Mara in Cassis, interesting to see how that goes.

If Dan gets to MD, the qualifiers could draw one of two wild cards or the top see Richard Berankis or a Spaniard in the lower half. Other than berankis, not bad, although the Spaniard would be followed by Stakhovsky in round 2. But those two WC's might be nice if he was lucky enough (and gets through of course)

Dan wraps it up in 53 minutes 6-1 6-2. Gabashvili hasn't started his match left, so Dan gets a decent rest before playing

Great venue. Wooded hills in the background. Shame no one watching (that we can see from the camera angle anyway).
