Week 36 - ITF ($60) - Montreux, Switzerland Clay

The Italian played some cracking attacking tennis to defend the break points.

Her weight of shot was that bit more, she probably deserved it.

But SO good to see Mandy back....

Emily's college pedigree continues to massively underwhelm, 4-6 1-6

 A late comment from me.

Why on earth has Emily played clay court tournaments this summer (apart from the GB 25k's on hard), when I presume her matches at Stanford would be entirely on hard courts ?

I know she won a 15k last year at Hammamet, but this year on clay she's managed just one win and 3 losses in main draws, and 7 wins and 2 losses in QD.

I'm hoping it's to fill in the weaknesses in her tennis armoury, and work on the parts of her game that are most deficient, do the hard painful yards, and emerge, butterfly-like, as a better all-around player eventually, after the process.
If so, I applaud that approach.

A lot of Mid-West & Mid-Southern US College tennis is played on red or green clay, though I'm not sure in Stanford's division, how much they overlap with schools in those regions and on those surfaces.

While younger sis' is going great guns at the US Open and shaking up the tennis order in brilliant style, a little shoutout for big sister Mari, who's got her QF match here later today.

Just come across that Mandy had received a QWC, that wasn't needed because withdrawals gave her direct acceptance. That explains why she posted she was heading to her first tournament and sounded confident of playing when she was still a few places down in the alt list.
