Emily is up to a CH 522 this week, but more importantly is liveranked 504, after her SF run last week. She needs just 1 more point to break into the top 500, but she has a full set of counters, so that means reaching the QF here - where she may well meet Da Hye KIm (CH:512), who beat her last week en route to winning the title. Should Emily reach at least the QF here, I can well see her skipping next week's tournament, which would be her 4th here on the trot, and heading for home instead. I'm sure her target now is breaking into that top 500.
L32: (4) Emily Appleton WR 522 vs (Q) Cherry Kim (KOR) UNR, age 18, JCH 376
Third week in a row they will have met after L16 meetings in the last 2 weeks, 6-1 6-1 and then 6-4 6-2 to Emily. Kim now has 3 counters so will be ranked in the next rankings update, so no need to win here, eh.
Unless Emily turns this around, we may end the week with zero match wins of any type anywhere, by any player, for the first time I can ever remember. Unless Tiffany can pull off a major shock later.
Over to Tiffany to save the show then, as Emily falls.
Not even a doubles win yet this week, though we might get one in USO, but singles wise, a lowest ever entry list during the main part of the season (so, excepting the very doggest of December, off-seasonm dog days - the weeks where there is only 1 event globally, in the far east, and we subsequetly have zero entries), and zero wins.
Probably going to be the norm next year. All good fun for tennis fans.

So Emily has failed in her goal for the week, to break into the top 500. And I would think that that elbow 'niggle' has become a little more than a niggle now, given that Emily has lost her last two singles matches (and her doubles match before then). The fact that she is not playing doubles this week may also be because she is far from fully fit. Unfortunately this may persuade her to try and stay on for the fourth and final week of this run of Korean 15ks, rather than come home at this point. She is still entered for next week and still needs to reach the QF of that to break into the top 500 and she can scarcely blog again on sky until she has done that...
As you say, Emily is still entered for next week, but I have just checked and she has withdrawn all her entries for week 37.
As have most of our girls - down to 17 entries out of an initial 78 - just a few of the low/unranked players left, and not a single main draw entry.
One contributory cause for the lack of UK players competing internationally this week and next may be that the LTA Team finals are taking place this weekend at Bournemouth. Also most US uni players return this week.
You may be right, telstar, but in week 37 the only ranked player with an entry into an ITF tournament is Emily Arbuthnott who is A29 in a 25k (so probably won't even try and sign in) - and surely she must be due back at Stanford by then ? There are a few more for week 36, but most of those are alts as well.

There are 6 UK players with world singles rankings who are due at Bournemouth from Fri-Sun plus a further 7 with world doubles rankings. With the top 7 being in US then the entry numbers for ITF's become more understandable.

Sounds logical.
There were pretty few playing this time last year either.
Very sensible, and I hope she gives herself enough rest and recovery time now to get over all niggles and worse that she might have picked up from this long, extended run of hers.
