Shame for Liam, but again, like his sister, the best chance for a qualifier ended after that 1st round match. You don't lose 9 matches in a row, often to lower ranked players, by accident. Perhaps he just has Clarke's number and that's a bad match up for Jay, but there's been very little evidence since Miami to suggest that Liam would have it in him to win 3 consecutive matches here.
Sorry, if Jay can only win 4 games in a match against Liam it is nonsense to claim he would have had a better chance of qualifying and frankly the same holds true of Katie if she could only manage that 1 game in the deciding set against Naomi. It seems almost as though there is a suggestion that the Broady's are holding back our rising talent which is preposterous, it is a competitive sport and you need to beat the person in front of you and if Jay and Katie cannot manage that then that is their failing but Liam and Naomi earned their victories and have nothing to apologize for.

Think you're reading far too much into that. The Broady's have nothing to apologise for, at all, nobody has suggested they should and don't know why you have even brought that up. They are ranked inside the top 200, or top 250 in Liam's case which was high enough to play these qualifiers so they were involved by right and if they won a match or two, good for them.
I'm just saying both have been in very poor form for a while, Naomi since January and Liam since March and both are rapidly sliding down the rankings and IMO are pretty basic, just an opinion, and they are not suddenly going to go on a random winning spree when they have shown no signs of doing for a long time. I doubt many would have predicted either would qualify. Katie was the number 2 seed here and on the brink of the top 100, was bookies favourite to beat Naomi, had beaten her a few months ago and would likely have been favourite to beat Garcia Perez as well, hence more likely to qualify. Jay is a lot younger than Liam, has won a strong challenger event recently (which is a similar level to this) is about 70 places higher in the live rankings, hasn't lost 9 games in a row so I don't think it's nonsense at all to claim that both of these were more likely to qualify.
It was up to the younger players themselves to beat their more experienced opponents, which they didn't, and there was no reason whatsoever for Liam or Naomi to roll over, they would actually likely have been more motivated to win if anything.
A couple of interesting snippets from the final round of qualifying:
1) Peter Polansky lost today and got in as a lucky loser, thus completing a calendar year slam of lucky loser places! Crazy that he's always got close enough to a DA to be in contention for a LL place (i.e. a high seed in qualifying) without actually being a DA for any of the slams this year.
2) Tommy Robredo beat Nicolas Mahut for a place in the main draw. It's the second time they have played each other in slam qualifying - the last time was when they were about half their current ages, 18 years ago in QR2 at Roland Garros, when qualifying wild card Nico won in 3 sets and went on to qualify.

wow Re polansky. I wonder how much money he has won by the 4 lucky draws! Unfortunately he's lost all 3 r1 matches so far and plays sascha zverev here!
