When you see Coco up close, she is even more impressive. The musculature on her, for her age, is off the scale. And she's a slim girl. As said in summer, both this and last, she impressed me way more that Whitney, for instance. The sound of the ball, and the acceleration and power, just great to watch.
However, she is young, and that does carry a certain amount of ups and downs with it. Am still hopeful for Heather.
Was actually pretty comfortable in the end. Could have been a simple set if she'd taken her chances but she'll need to keep her game controlled and her level up. Ive no doubt Gauff will hit a purple patch at some point, or at least start getting more depth on her balls which by the end of the set were painfully short every time.
After an early wobble never looked in any danger. I thought the youngster might get a second wind but it never came.
Heather wins 64 61
A useful reminder of the gulf between being the best junior and a very good professional.
Yes. She's got a great future. And upsets happen. But a 14 year-old wildcard playing us open for the first time is miles below a seasoned pro in terms of nouse and knowhow.
On serve *1-2. Chiesa held to 15 and love, Swan held to 40, so looks like it will be a tough battle judging by those early stages. I was quite surprised to see Katie come in to the 4/11 favourite before the start of the match, but hoping she lives up to that.
30-0 here so hopefully a more comfortable hold here.
