Week 34 - US Open Qualifying

Pretty brutal but to have made the draw here is not a bad effort.

She's not been the same since the Pegula loss, so maybe a few weeks break now is what she needs.

Tough draw against a seeded player who has been in good form these past 3 months or so, but without sounding harsh, there wasn't too many names in that draw where I'd expect her to come through, but then again, that's much of a surprise as she is one of the lower ranked players involved.

Jabeur is nearly ranked half as what Katy is. Hope Katy got sometging out of the match - may qualifying for Aus Open go better when the time comes.

Great win for Naomi, she has limitations in terms of how she can play in part due to her height, I loved watching her progress under Fitzy, it doesnt have to be pretty to be appreciated and why not play to her strengths indeed she should continue to focus and develop her serve. In three set tennis a real monster serve is one hell of a weapon. Katie B will be fine, I genuinely believe she has top 50 potential, there is plenty to learn from a defeat like this.

Katie D I feel is close to her natural high. Perhaps a little under powered to make the next step, but I felt the same way about Harriet although the later I feel always had a steely determination to make it. A certain grit to her game. Hopefully Katie D can develop a bit more of that, I really like her as do many on the forum which is part of the problem. She shouldnt really know who Steven is, I would like to see total focus and the odd Evo rant, perhaps a bit of spitting and racket smashing.

It was nice to dream for a while, AliB - it makes life sweeter

But Ons is a seriously good player, I've a lot of time for her, seen her play as a kid a couple of times, and I believe she's the only Muslim player (female player?) in the top 100 (or round about). Wish her well.

With one all-brit encounter and one with the GB Player as serious, serious underdog, yesterday wasn't really the issue. Today is D-Day !

If Jabeur had a less politically motivated, interfering tennis association, who knows what she could have already achieved. She had the potential to be the Tunisian El Aynaoui or Arazi. She still might, but it won't be any thanks to the meddling shenanigans of the FTT.

I also wish her well.

She's still not matched the achievements of Selima Star (popular with many on here due to her long friendship with Lucie Ahl), but has the potential to go much further than Sel ultimately did

The potential size and slipperiness of the particular banana-skin can scarcely be overstated.
I'll be happy with any sort of win here.

I've eventually remembered what Selima's actual surname is - which is Sfar! I knew your spellchecker had got at it, but initially couldn't recollect what it actually was.

I had her as one of the worst 3 possible draws for any of our players to face at any point in qualifying.

Had Serena or Venus ever played juniors, I would now be saying that Gauff is the best looking junior I have seen since them, and she's the only one, despite the many phenoms in the interrim, where the comparison was even remotely meaningful.
TL;DR: yes, she looks a bit good
