I thought I saw that (dipping in and out). I also thought that they don't have on-court coaching at the slams - or have I got that wrong?
Well it wasn't actually on court, he was at the side behind the barrier and she went up to him at the change of ends. I thought it wasn't allowed, but it must be in qualifying, or she wouldn't have got away with it.
Those are the potential opponents for Hev. I'd be happy with from Niculescu down. The other Q is a bit of a lottery, most are fair, but I think I'd prefer her not to draw Genie if she does land in that Q vs Q spot.
Hev looked very happy indeed (the only downside of her winning is that it reduces the chance of both of them getting in, since she'd have had more chance of a lucky loser place)
Contracting and adding a tiny bit of detail to last night's list, she's the 7th Brit in 8 years (and 10th in 15 years) to qualify in New York. Those qualifiers (with the rounds they reached) are as follows:
2018 Heather Watson R?
2017 Cameron Norrie R2
2016 Laura Robson R1
2015 Johanna Konta R4
2013 Dan Evans R3
2012 Johanna Konta R2
2011 Laura Robson R2
2006 Josh Goodall R1
2005 Andy Murray R2
2004 Alex Bogdanovic R1
