Great to wake up to find both won in straight sets. I suppose now we have to look on the bright side and look forward to a guaranteed qualifier.
Yes. Great news. And to have one from the 'old' guard and one from the 'new', nice and balanced (poor Hev, 'old' guard at 26 - she's only just hitting her prime too, maybe not even).
Maybe worth noting that Brengle, Fourlis and Jabeur (the women who beat Gabi, Harriet and Katy) all came through their subsequent matches.
Also worth noting that seemingly, this alone will take Katie S up from 7th to 5th in the GB rankings, not bad for the teenager

Unless I've counted wrongly, 6 of the qualifiers who get through will play seeds in round one, with makarova another possibility. Two qualifiers play each other. The other 7 qualifiers play other unseeded players. So possibly a tough draw ahead. For now they've got to beat each other.
After the past couple of years, I'm #teamHev tonight.
Katie has done a great job making the FQR and has many good years ahead. Heather needs to start climbing back up to where we know she should be
I'm not really fussed, I find with these matches I sometimes don't know until part way through the match who I'm supporting. Ms Swan is a more exciting prospect than Hev, so I'd maybe leant that way, but I'm just glad we're going to get someone else in the MD. I'd have taken that at the start of the week.
I would expect Hev to have too much for Katie. I know it has been a pretty bleak 12 months but at anywhere close to her best Heather is comfortably the best player we have besides Jo and by quite a wide margin. I would love to see her get on a run here and get her confidence back.
It is ironic that Hev won the junior title here, but this is her worst GS by far - she has never won a match in the main draw so would be good to end that. A R1 win would take her back into the top 100 so on that basis I slightly prefer her to win as it gives her that chance.
As said there is plenty of time for Katie, and she has to be pleased with getting to QR3.
Aged 39 and 8 months, Patty Schnyder successfully comes through qualifying, to make the main draw for the first time at the USO in eight years, and having at one time been retired for four years.

Very pleased. Her personal and financial woes, with talks of bankruptcy, having been defrauded, deadbeat husband, etc. etc. put her in a tricky position. No idea the absolute ins and outs, but it's good to see her back for whatever reason, showing that age is no real barrier.
And congratulations, too, to Kathinka von Deichmann in qualifying and thus becoming Liechtensteins first ever female representative in the singles main draw of any Grand Slam I was surprised that Steffi Vogy never managed it, given her CH of 137 but there you go. Her best was FQR, at both Roland Garros & Wimbledon; one time for each.
Party time in Vaduz!
Edit - Addendum: she's Liechtensteins first player in a singles MD at a Slam, of either sex. Very well done.
