Good set from Hev - stats look good as well. Caught a bit of an interview with Hev via twitter - I hadn't realised, but the QR1 win was Hev's first win as a senior at the USO
Crazy isn't it. You'd think she would have a good record with her junior success and spending a lot of time at an early age in the States.
Katie's win ensures that GB's streak of having players in the final qualifying round (men's, women's or both) at the US Open goes up to 16. In the other years, 9 have gone on to qualify:

It was a surprise (though I vaguely remembered her R1 record was bad) - she actually only played qualifying once before though, in 2010 (the year after she won the juniors) - since then, she has got straight into the main draw and is 0-7 in R1.

Think it's just about fine to start looking at the Q placings and see who could be potential opponents. There is a wide range as you'd expect with 16 spots, but there are definitely some opportunities.
You could face the likes of Sharpova, Goerges or Barty, but the plumb spot is definitely French WC Harmony Tan who is about 400 in the rankings. There is also a Q vs Q and you'd also take Blinkova and McHale (well I would anyway) if offered.
Heather is defending 10 points, Katie just 2, so they have both improved on last year.
AO main draw has to be Hev's target so a few more points needed.
6 matches featuring Americans, so they will take priority with the streaming, but hopefully Hev and Katie can end up on a streamed court so we can watch it unfold.
