Week 34 - US Open Qualifying

Gabi has't half had some rotten luck in and around Grand Slams already in her career.
This is very unfortunate. Poisoned at Wimbledon, and now whatever struck her down at Landisville seems to have lingered to her complete detriment.
Must be due a break

Seems like everyone maybe feeling the effects of all those retirements a couple of weeks back. Gabi said she heatstroke.

Even if these two matches go the wrong way, as they look like doing at the moment, this will be the first time we've had more than 2 GB women in QR2 for 9 year (4 in 2009 - Bally and Laura, who both made the FQR, along with Katie O'Brien & Melanie South)

We've had 2 women in the FQR in 2 of the last 3 years, with Naomi being one of them each time (she also made the FQR in 2011)

Fourlis' has been in pretty poor form since the start of the grass season. Out in 1st round of quals in Vancouver last week despite being a seed.

Harriet does get one of the breaks back. Even if this set does go, hopefully that might kick start something.

Yes, Landisville was a worry ...

I wouldn't have been putting money on all our players completing a match. Hopefully they all do unless it reaches a stage of discretion being the better part of valour.

Landisville, Landisville, all it does, is make you ill
Breaks your game, and saps your will
Accursed Landisville

I dare you to send that to the tournament director

Gabi succumbs, 1-6 1-6
Best wishes to her. I think you've got to play this match no matter how you feel, you've got to give it a go, the stage and potential rewards are too big, even if you might not be able to do yourself justice.
Hope she can get back to form and have some good weeks at big tournaments to consolidate her ranking for next year.

Applies to Harriet, too. not seeming able to give her usual level, 2-6 *0-1

I had more verses, and a haiku, too.

Melancholic gallows creativity whilst our players suffer. (Incidentally, I hear that is also to be the new tournament slogan for Landisville 2019!)

Harriet has 40-0* here , so maybe a bit of life in this one yet.

A long game 6, in which Harriet eventually manages to hold on, having saved several BP, 2-6 3-3*
