Just to note on the above that so far this year Maia has reached one 25k final, right at the beginning of the year in Glasgow in Feb, but since then has reached beyond the second round only once, to reach the QF of a 25k in Korea in May.
Mostly Maia has been trying to play at the 25k level this year, which is a step up for her, before 2018, she had played only a few 25k tournaments and not done that well. This is only her second 15k tournament of the year (I think), in March she reached just the second round of a 15k in Macon. So after her run to the final in Feb, Maia really hasn't had a run of matches in a single week since then. It's disappointing, as she seemed to be at the level really to step up at the beginning of the year - many people, including myself, had her in their top 10s by the year end. She still may be, but needs to see some improvements in her game - starting today with recovering from a current dispiriting situation where she is
2-6 *0-2 down
Maia looked like she might finally win one of her service games in the 2nd set, then did a Naomi to serve 3 rapid DFs and concede the game. Now down 2-6 1-4* oh dear
I find strange Maia playing on clay probably her worst surface! I haven't seen her for a few years she always seemed very frail compared to some of the other girls.
Although naturally I hope she does well I cannot see her breaking into top 200 like Dart Taylor etc
If she is looking to stay in Europe then she didn't have much choice of surface. There are no hard court tournaments in Europe at any level for 3 weeks and no 25K or higher hard court in Europe for 5 weeks.

At least if she's played Sutton, she'd still have been top seed. No points on offer, but the solitary one she got this week makes little difference, and hardly justifies the expense.

The 1 point is no good to her, she has several 1pointers not counted... Maia would indeed have been better off at Sutton.
Yes, several non-counters. I see she played clay tournaments in August and September last year, and has some counters dropping off from then. Nd not forgetting the double prize money at Sutton this week.
