Especially during the Asian Swing where there are often 3 WTA events in the same week - Tokyo, Korea, Guangzhou and then Tianjin, HK and Linz (not Asia but that week) so if you're in and around 100 you should be getting into a main draw directly in those weeks.
It is brilliant, but she's only in the alts list, at 36, so needs a fair few to drop out if she's going to get into qualifying.
Not sure she's serious about playing yet - she'd have gone for the Swiss 15K on clay - but she withdrew
Mandy is entered again for a range of tournaments the following week 2, her priorities again the 25ks. I agree I'm not sure she she serious about the Braunschweig tournament... however looking at next week's Leipzig tournament in Germany and the final entry list there, Mandy would be in qualifying. For Braunschweig, at 34 on the alt list now she certainly still has a way to go.
And just today, after both she and Emily Arg got high enough on the alt list to be certain of making the qualifying draw... Mandy has withdrawn. So yes, not ready yet. She is still in entry lists for the following week. Mandy's dilemma of course is that if she leaves it too long she will lose all her ranking points, and then it will be more difficult for her to get back, and she will have to go the 15k route, with all its implications for the main tour/ transition tour next year. She could do with some 25k points in short, but whether she can yet get back or not, we'll not find out for another 12 days now.
Anyone any idea why there are no ATP challengers this week ? Is it just down to us open qualies? I'm sure the other slams all have at least one Challenger in the qualifying round week before the slam?

I assume that it is mainly because of US Open Qualifying. I was actually surprised to look back and see that all the other Slams did have Challengers in that week. Loughborough was one of the two in French Open qualifying week.
There are less women's challenger equivalents with only a China 60K in French Open Q week being above 25K level.

It does make sense but I guess it also seems a shame as there are plenty of players who cant or dont play qualies that at least should be catered for. Anyways, does anyone know when the draw is out for the qualifying events? With 7 ladies and 2 gents in the draws, it will make interesting reading. the US Open site says very little about qualies at all apart from the draws are due out today.
