All the match plays died off, for the better players after the LTA changed acceptance to ranking. Only 10.2 - 8.2 are interested.
Such a shame imo, every weekend there was an opportunity to play 2 matches of your standard, so excellent practice in a real situation.
There is much talk of long term development & this was great, without having to travel the length & breath of the country. Yes there were people who just did it for ratings but where are they now?
There is always a loophole in any system which will be used to get a bit of leverage by parents.
At the moment its 12u top players (grade2/3 ability)playing in grade 5 u16 or above .The u14s playing womens all for the ranking points, better points than winning their own age group but in reality playing their peers.
I hope UTR takes off so I can get out of the car again.
Its the quality play. After all its a long, arduous trek..... not a sprint
Hi, it wasnt tennis uk run by David Fuchs. I realised my mistake in the name after I re read my post. I can picture the site just cant find who it was. They used to supply tennis supplies too, Sutton I think did have an association with them but not the match play chaps
All this frustration is not new and only exasperated by the new interpretation of the 'player pathway'. As far as I have always understood, player pathways are the competitive stepping stones as a player moves through local, national and international events. The idea being, if you were good enough to make semis at a certain level, you would then be good enough to win a match at the level above. Of course for this to work, the tournament structure must be seamless and totally financially accessible at every level.
Training and academies, then just become the process which helps you achieve this, rather than the goal.
Most of the frustration around funding, especially at older age groups, that I see, comes from the expense of competing.
