Happy with that on the whole. Dart/Swan will play the winner of the Naomi match so unless it's Ahn doing damage, a good chance of a QF there. Gabi is in line to play the 3rd seed Brengle if they both come through.
Kissell turns out not to be some potentially under-ranked junior - instead, she's a 27-year-old who has never been in the top 1000 who won a wild card into this event by winning a weekend tournament in New Jersey back in June. Fairly random!

Oh! I just presumed it was because she was a local, from just down the road (in American terms of scale). She played NC State University college tennis until 2013-14 and had a school record breaking career at that level, though I'm given to understand it's not a top tier school.
The 1st and 2nd seeds both have career highs of 372, but they both withdrew, so Kissell didn't have to beat any WTA-ranked players to win the wild card. Nice work if you can get it! In a way, quite a cool idea but I'm surprised the wild card on offer was for a 60K, not a 15K.

Pleased to see Em and Katy are able to play doubles this week, so nothing too serious
Yes, I was pleased to see that too. Gabi and Em, and Harriet and Katy D are our doubles entrants this week. Naomi has been playing doubles a lot recently, but is not entered this week, perhaps because Asia Muhammad, who has been a frequent partner in that run, is not playing this week - having just won at Lexington yesterday, beating the afore mentioned Ann Li comfortably in the final.
Looks like Katy D is injured - I'm assuming its her following her retirement yesterday, not Harriet - since she and Harriet have now retired from their doubles after losing the first set 0-6.
Hope she is able to recover soon, and wondering if we will see her now in Vancouver next week, or she will recuperate a bit.
