If this has been Katie inching towards the top 100 I'll be quite excited when she gets on a hurry up with her rankings progress
Be great if she could follow up the Krunic top 50 win of last week but would no doubt have to step up very significantly on yesterday.
Yes, not my definition of inching either, unless you're meaning a daily inch Paul? ... Just 8 weeks ago Katie was WR156, now she is live rank 105... Heather was WR91 then, and Katie was still GB#4.
Jo & Zhang's first set against the Romanian duo was close throughout, but they finished the wrong side of the score
They're trying to redress the balance in set 2 however
4-6 *3-1
On another court, Canadian Slam champ, Dabrowski, is playing with her regular partner, Xu, against Genie & Sloane. If anyone has coverage and can tell me who the crowd are cheering for in this match, I would be very interested to know.
Just caught on livescore the Romanians winning the deuce point at 6-5* to Jo+ so rather than straight to a MTB Jo+ will have to win the 2nd set TB and then MTB.
Sevastova 'did a Boulter' and beat Krunic 6-1 6-0 (wonder what's got into Krunic recently) so it was looking like a much earlier start for Katie B, but the 2nd match between Gavrilova and Safarova has just gone into a third (6-4 4-6) so could be up to an hour before Katie is on. Gavrilova had *3-2 in that 2nd set so Safarova did well to turn that around.
There must have been some significant money going on Tsurenko today. I'm sure they started out at 8/15 (Tsurenko) vs 11/8 and it was definitely 4/9 vs 13/8 a few hours ago but it's now 1/3 vs 9/4 - that's quite a significant jump from 11/8 to 9/4 without a single ball being hit.
Lesia's first event since Wimbledon. She has retired twice in her last 3 events, and while its not nice seeing players retire/injured, if it ends up being 3 from 4 and Katie get's those 60 points, there'll be no complaints from me.
