Another Canadian wildcard Abanda will surely be the ideal opponent in the main draw. Ideally she avoids Osaka again. but it's just great that she has made another massive tournament and those points will come in very handy.
That's the problem with getting a first round walkover, you go in cold against someone who has already played and won a match. It can take a set to get everything into gear.
An interesting experience ( and thankfully not in the end a bad one ) for Katie to play what was a big match for her but the way the cards had fallen one where she was the experienced one and facing a very good yougster with a home crowd hugely behind her and not playing well herself. And she found a way.
Sounds as if although generally clearly not at her best she was going too near these lines earlier on and too often going the wrong side so playing to more margins helped.
Anyway, phew, and 30 more points ( net 25 ) to her ranking points total.

It actually worked out completely the opposite in the Hlavackova-Flipkens match. The former, like Katie, had the day off yesterday while Kirsten overcame BMS. Flipkens lost the first set 1-6 but then came back to win it 6-1 6-2.
The app should really break those lines, to show the distinct brackets like the official PDF draws do. I'm always thinking there is another round because of the way it is laid out.
This is the list of 12 potential opponents and in my oder of preference
Abanda Zhang Pavs (been a bit injury hit this year) Cirstea Gavrilova AVU Tsurenko V Williams (great experience) Sharapova (see Venus) Sabalenka Buzarnescu (but may be tired) Osaka
Dolehide wins, so we should find out soon.

Katie third on Court 9 tomorrow following Sevastova-Krunic and Safarova-Gavrilova. Play starts at 4pm so we'll be looking at a similar time of 7.30pm again. It is due to clash with the tasty looking Dolehide-Venus match on Centre Court, but hopefully BT Sport will show Katie's match (or at least both if they want / have to show Centre Court).
Great result, I wasn't able to check in last night, so thanks to all who gave commentary. I sounds like Katie has got an issue mentally which I hope she can sort out before it inhibits her as she (hopefully) goes up the rankings.
The young Canadian sounds awesome and one to watch. Thanks steven for the posts from the other perspective, I love to see these.
I know nothing about Tsurenko, but at WR45 and not being Canadian, it sounds like a decent draw. Good luck for later.
Katie is up to a CH of 105 a win later would take her into the top 100. I have idea whether hard is one of her best surfaces or not, or Tsurenko's for that matter?
