2-6 - this match has been a bit of a horror show so far but hopefully Katie can regroup for the next set (there was no real evidence from the Canadian's previous results to suggest she'd give KB much trouble at all) - as far as I can tell, FQR losers who had a w/o in QR1 only get 1 point (not the 20 for making the FQR, though they do get FQR prize money), so given that and this once in a blue moon draw to qualify for the Premier 5, there's a lot hanging on the result. Maybe that's the problem, of course, who knows.

"Leylah Annie Fernandez wins first set 6-2 vs Boulter. Really didn't have much to do, Boulter can't seem to keep the ball in the court yet. Young Canadian doing a great job being solid and keeping her intensity."

Fernandez starts the second in a similar fashion, holding to 30.
This would be a bit like Emma Rad dominating someone like Jana Fett in Eastbourne quals. We'd be buzzing on here as I'm sure those on a similar Canadian type forum will be now..
Katie has just held to love though and as a result has gained as many points on serve in that game than she did throughout the first set. Not going to say 'hopefully this...' as it wasn't happening that first set.

Yeah, that's correct. Said yesterday I'd have preferred her to have played a doubles specialist alt on site for a chance of 20 points in case this happened, but then again a 15 year old without any notable pro wins would be pretty favourable.
That's a cracking hold to be fair to Katie from 0-40 down, sealed with an ace. That would likely have been the match gone had she lost that game but it's still on serve here.
- Boulter wins her first service game on her 5th try. Fernandez up 6-2 1-1. #CoupeRogers
- Fernandez saves a break point on a swing volley winner, then hits a second serve ace and service winner. Up 6-2 2-1. Crowds starts chanting her name on packed Court 5. #CoupeRogers
- After three horrible mistakes, Boulter strings five big first serves to save three break points and level at 2-2 in second set. Starting to find her range. #CoupeRogers
Dare we hope that hold from 0-40 might be a turning point?

2 more break points come and go and the Canadian manages to extricate herself despite some difficulties after it reached deuce
- Leylah Annie Fernandez gets a bit tight with two double faults on game points, but manages to hold with two spectacular forehand winners for 6-2 3-2. #CoupeRogers

Katie now breaks to 15. *4-3. This set is a lot better (as you would have expected) as she has had BPs in most of the games and now leads for the first time in either set.
