I have only just taken time to read more about the tragic story of Ellie, our snowboarding young talent who took her own life on her 18th birthday. Such a sad story and someone who will clearly be tragically missed. As a Dad of a 20 year old boy and 16 year old girl, I can really feel the pain of those who loved her.
I hope sports authorities everywhere look at this story and ask if there is anything more they can do to ease the pressures and stresses of the expectations poured on these young people. Yes, the upside of success is high but as we have seen in this case, the downside can be tragic.
