Week 31 - ITF ($60K) - Lexington, USA - Hard

*4-5
Too many UFE, that seems to be the difference. Bit more consistency required.

This is a really weird match from my point of view. It seems to be being played in thick treacle, everything is so slow.
Katy is hitting the ball very short in court today compared to yesterday, when she kept an immaculate length for most of the match and forced her opponent back.

The organisation, administration and officiating here this week ahs been attrocious.

Can Katy serve out to level up?

Katy now *6-5 and will serve for the set. I'm not sure about the UFE, not what I've seen. this is a much better quality match than Pegula vs Gabi yesterday, with many more winners for both, vs comparatively few UFE's whereas yesterday there were hardly any winners for Gabi or Pegula.

Well she serves it out and all to play for.
Regarding the UFE - there was a passage of play when Katy hit a few into the top of the net, and a few just long. But there were a lot of good shots as well. Just wish she could avoid giving Pegula short balls on her forehand.

Looks like they have exchanged breaks at the start of the third with Pegula just breaking back to 40. 1-1*

A couple of BPs (at least) have cone and gone here for Katy. Back to deuce in the 3rd game.

Yes, I think I started watching shortly after that. Pegula is certainly very good at putting away anything Katy drops short, including second serves. Mind you Katy has been doing pretty well herself at putting the short ball away. Most of the games are close, with many longish rallies. Either player could win, though a good hold from Pegula after several deuces keeps her nose in front *1-2 third set

Phew, good hold from Katy. She faced a BP to allow Pegula to serve for the match, but saves it then wins the next two. 4-4

2 BPs for Katy (although one just saved). Ah, and another

40-40

A third comes and goes. What a chance that would have been.
