Punishingly hot conditions, which I can't imagine will suit Katy at all.
Katy usually spends some time in Australia, so I doubt it will bother her too much.
Lexington now is very different type of heat to Launceston, Mildura, Perth or Toowoomba in March. This is the thick stuff that scuppers much of Kvitova's season.
Either way, Ms. Dunne is acquitting herself just fine thus far.
Good win that. Another Aussie up next, could be #3 seed Cabrera (or Astra Sharma who has been a bit of a thorn recently with wins over Freya and Lissy).
Gabi went up 4-1 quickly, but shes got her hands full here; Stearns can play, and Gabi can't afford to lose focus or lessen her intensity. Playing quite well though, looks in good shape.
5-2*
And with that, I'm off to bed. Another men's match before Katie's so as good a time as any to get some kip. Hopefully I'll wake up to another WTA quarter final for her.
Pretty good from Gabi, staying patient, giving the youngster the run around, and attacking on merit.
She's not yet perfected the Kerber baseline squat though - not for want of trying
Gabi breaks to 15 and takes it 6-3 6-3. There'll no doubt be tougher assignments than this to come this week, but nice to see her back to winning ways after about 5 successive losses.
Nice work from Gabi. Quickly worked out the young prospect and nullified her for most of the match.
Next she faces the worlds richest tennis player, Jessica Pegula, in on a SR. Pegula is OK, hard to say where she's at right now. Gabi should stand every chance if she gives a good account of herself.
Busy night for GB! This must be what every day is like for French, German, Russian, Spainish, Czech etc. supporters!
