Just watching a bit to see what this is about - https://livestream.com/ATP/events/8310860/videos/178341524 - they both play using those double handled rackets
Liam's level in this match isn't good enough to allow him to construct points as he would like. Many of his trading forehands are really short. I so hope that he can turn things around, but it really isn't looking good.
Want to say that Liam gets the break but in truth, Gojo gave it to him with consecutive DFs from 30-30. But right now, we will take anything we can get.
We've kind of been here before with Liam, in rankings / potential ranking terms and I think with comments re confidence.
Rose to WR 158 on 03/08/15, had fallen back to WR 412 on 15/05/17, back up to a CH 154 on 02/04/18.
Yes still now WR 175 but a lot to defend in the coming months and his overall season to date gives him a race position 317.
Must be so frustrating in such periods to play so well short of his proven potential level. So hope he can turn it around again, in the short term today but he needs to find much more beyond that, and it is there, waiting to be tapped.
What a shame to see Liam as a shadow of the player he was towards the end of last year. No zip or aggression to his shots. It shows that talent and fitness arent everything. That belief thats bursting out of Jay at the moment has abandoned Liam at the moment. I wonder if hes changed his routine from last year. Hopefully hell get some support from teammates, coaches etc and get his spark back.
Looking at the schedule for tomorrow, Dan is now down to play a qualifier Jeffrey John Woolf, so am assuming Granollers has dropped out which makes it a much better draw. Expect a Dan- Jay Quarter final, which would be great/ agonising.
Couldnt rule out an entire British top half in the quarters now.
Maybe Granollers would have been better - Evo instantly 0-3 down
