L48:  Andy Murray WR 832 defeated Mackenzie McDonald (USA) WR 20 by 3-6 6-4 7-5 (in two hours 37 minutes - a decent work-out!)

L32:  Andy Murray WR 832 vs (4) Kyle Edmund WR 18  hmm

Andy up to 644 on live rankings

Love this tweet from Stu Fraser

"Big upset win for world No 832 and British No 21 Andy Murray in Washington overnight, beating Mackenzie McDonald 3-6 6-4 7-5 in two hours and 37 minutes for his first hard-court victory since March 2017..."

Looks a good battling win by the lad. Maybe one to watch.

A shame that he has to come up against our number one in the next round. Never mind, doubtless he will have easier days.

As an aside, Benoit Paire's epic meltdown and temper tantrum is of superb quality - truly comical.

So glad for Baghdatis too - love him being back......

Definitely like panto. Especially with the booing of the crowd at the end. Comedy gold.

This paragraph from Stu Fraser's report on Andy's match is a bit worrying:

Of most concern for Murray at the moment is his serve. He is still unable to fully extend upwards in his motion because of his hip issues, and a slight limp is still visible in between points. Towards the end of the second set, when facing a break point, the speed gun clocked a Murray second serve at 71mph.

cry

I'm not too worried about that, his second serve speed has always been erratic (generally less than Serena's), and he's always limping around even when he's fine. I hope the stretching upwards is just just lack of confidence of his hip and will fade with time - that for me is the most concerning.

Andy did say around Queen's time that serving then was still an issue.

Which is why match practice will be good for him.

That said, his second serve has always been fairly erratic as Helen says.
