Week 31 - WTA International ($250k) - Washington DC, USA - Hard

Yes opportunity missed. Katie could have played a lot better than this and it probably would have been enough without being anywhere near her best

Zheng's starting to miss her first serve but FAR too many errors from Katie.

Lost 2-6 4-6

Not too many positives to be taken from that to be honest. A first overseas WTA event I guess, albeit as a wildcard.

She will rightly kick herself for a poor performance. Didn't bring her game to the occasion at all.

Still very excited to see how she gets on over the rest of the year in qualies and bigger ITFs. She has improved a great deal this season.

Yep, and earned to right to play in bigger events - direct qualification to play in a strong 60k next week as a prime example whereas Katy D has to qualify. However a win here and a winnable match with Bonaventure next would have opened even more doors.

It has largely been a very good few months though as you say and let's see what the next few weeks bring.

Legitimately could've had all 3 Brits into R2 but hope it pushes Katie and Harriet on and improve - as they both could've beaten their opponents.

(We'll never know but) I personally think if Katie S and Harriet swapped opponents then we'd have 2 in the 2nd round. I think Harriet can take some positives from that match with Bencic even if it did fizzle out towards the end and she did pick up some decent points in qualifying. Given the weak Q field, perhaps it might have been better if Katie went that route although I suppose when a surprise overseas WC comes in you'd usually snap it up.

As I posted earlier, Ace, apparently Andy asked for Katie to get a WC as part of his appearance deal (seen a few tweets pertaining to this).

Team Swan raced to a 5-0* lead. Van der Hoek served for the set at 5-1 and were 40-15 but couldn't convert the 3 set points and DF on the deciding point. 5-2* Add: 2 more SPs come and go *5-3.. Come on Katie. serve it out

Ms. Boulter's atch has sensibly had a change of court, and is thus up shortly.
I look forward to discovering the result in the morning
Good luck Katie - continue the streak of wins in the last few hours - Jo, Katy, Gabi...

Woeful start from Katie, broken to love 0-1

Then missed out on 4 bps 0-2

Held to 15, one good shot, ugly 2nd serve return from AK 1-2

Rubbish return game from Katie, giving away so many points with cheap errors 1-3

Df to start then AK f ue, a better shot from KB, an unreturned first serve, another ugly backhand error and takes the game with a poor 2nd serve return error from AK 2-3

AK rushes to 40-0 then it gets ugly but she holds to 30 thanks to another KB error 2-4

Once again starts with a df, follows it with a horrible b into the net, a super f, then another aggressive f, a shocking b error gives AK bp but a big serve allows KB to save it with an easy f winner, AK f long after a rally, nice b dtl from KB 3-4

Missed it as I was typing, AK holds to 30 3-5

A couple of decent f(s) from KB as she holds to 30 4-5*

KB dominates the rally, decides to take on a f drive volley, puts it wide; It's been that type of set. AK holds to love 4-6
