I only watched bits of the match but Alex seemed very flat. He normally hits the ball a lot more crisply than he did today.
This.
It may have been he was struggling with the spin that Li put on the ball but as I said last night he didn't attack the ball in the way he did against Broady at Nottingham. I was disappointed, particularly seeing as I had been induced to have a little flutter on his behalf after he had lost the first set. I feel like he's a guy who often loses the first set but then comes back and wins, and had backed him to do so.
He was strangely flat. It was an incredibly flat atmosphere, I accept that Gatineau is not Roland Garros, but even by Challenger standards this was tepid, there was virtually no-one there, don't know if that affected him or what, but it was a disappointing game for him. Oh well, there's always next week.
If anything it was worse than the scoreline, Sigouin had break points on both the second set games that Liam won, I think. Never remotely under pressure in that second set, very routine victory.
Liam has lots of points to defend in August to October and risks again a big fall down the rankings having risen well into the top 200. Needs to find some of the missing ingredients. He is currently just #303 in the race.
To not push on once but fall back was a pity, to happen again would be very concerning and no doubt so frustrating for Liam
Has seemed over recent times to show a lack of belief and played 'safe' at important points of matches, not that he really got to important points today and the biggest issue is that he is again generally not playing as he has shown he can.
Do hope he finds a way to turn things round again. Perhaps in need of good assistance and/or a fresh eye on things.

I do feel that confidence is a big factor for Liam and his current form is largely a result of his decision to play a number of clay tournaments leading up to RG. The decision was understandable as his ranking meant he would be able to play RG qualifiers and of course he should have the ambition to become a decent all court player but the poor results he recorded really seem to have set him back. It cannot help that in choosing to play the clay season he skipped the hardcourt challenger swing in Asia where he has had a lot of success in past years and that may well increase the pressure he is putting on himself.
Right now a lucky draw and a couple of back to back wins could prove to be a real tonic. He actually played pretty well on the grass but kept running into quality players like Stakho who ultimately had the experience to see him off. Fingers crossed for a change in fortunes soon.
In the doubles, Liam and de Loore had set points in the first set, in a pretty uninspired but very even tie-break. But couldn't manage it. And lost the second quite easily.
